Eminem burst onto the scene a decade ago with The Slim Shady LP and quickly took the piss out of Hollywood at a time when bubblegum pop-music and pre-blog celebrity gossip was still ripe for parody. But beneath it all, there were tracks that spoke to a deep, boundless, seldom-stated anger that hooked a generation of enraged teenagers and politically pissed-off twenty-somethings who appreciated that a white kid from Detroit could dominate rap with a then untouchable flow.

The Marshall Mathers LP took that foundation and evolved it, matured it, upped the production value and celebrated the record's sharp writing and near-flawless vocal performance. Then came The Eminem Show, which eschewed the teen-friendly media-bashing for an Eminem vastly more interested in discussing the economic, cultural and political landscape of a post-9/11, George Bush America.

He'd reached his most relevant. He'd attained the very pinnacle of his success. And then the other rappers emerged – rappers like 50 Cent, Kanye, Common, Nas. Hell, even Jay-Z came out of his short-lived retirement and managed to put out a succession of albums that quickly reaffirmed his status as a rap legend and seized the relevancy that Eminem had abdicated. And despite a fourth, rather sophomoric album, Em faded slowly into the hip-hop background.

Jump ahead five years to the release of "We Made You," the opening salvo from the first of two new records in the Relapse series. And instead of forging ahead with a single that stabs directly at the heart of the post-Bush, Obama-led, downsized America, Em's taken a giant leap back to the days of Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers with a celeb-hating, teen-angsty, radio-friendly, pop-rap tune that either throws up its hands and says "F*** it!" or grovels at the feet of former fans to drop their $9.99 on iTunes.

Without knowing what the rest of these two albums will sound like – and, frankly, how could we not see the aggressive, angry, more serious Em we came to love in The Eminem Show – "We Made You" is still a bad first-foot-forward, mostly because it's such a large step backward.

The music is decidedly non-rap, borrowing the style of verse-chorus-verse embraced by Em in his later records. The tempo is upbeat and while the drum-and-piano mash-up throughout the verses is familiar territory for Em, the chorus (sung by Dina Rae) sounds a bit like the post-modern, 1950's-nostalgia pop that made the last Amy Winehouse album such a refreshing listen.

Em's flow is quick and witty, as always, but his delivery doesn't necessarily gel with the music beneath it. The lyrics are all sex-and-celebrity with jabs directed toward the usual suspects of media whores: Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, Kim Kardashian, etc. The video, however, is simply too obvious, too silly, and it does the song -– which, at its worst, is still mildly enjoyable -– a huge disservice. In fact, we here at IGN found that our impression of the single improved dramatically when not watching it alongside the video. It doesn't play like social satire or even work on any real comedic level. It's as if somebody gave the biggest douchebags from high-school enough money to make a fully produced music video and simply laid the track down over it. But if you find the idea of a Transformer with breasts, a penis-shaped Enterprise, or Em parading around dressed like Bret Michaels at all amusing, then please, give it a watch.

We'd love to say that Em has come back with a bang with this single –- the first official cut from the album, despite the release of the significantly better "Crack a Bottle" –- but sadly, tragically, we can't. We still have full faith that the new material, spread out over two new albums this year, will offer the kind of listening experience we expect from Dre's production and Em's flawless cadence, but unfortunately, for the moment, "We Made You" simply doesn't make us... well... anything.

50 cent eminem - new album plans

Hip-hop star 50 CENT is planning to follow in the footsteps of his mentor EMINEM - by releasing two albums in one year.

Eminem, who discovered 50 Cent in 2002, announced last year (08) his plans to release his highly-anticipated comeback Relapse in May (09) - followed by Relapse 2 just months later.

The Without Me rapper revealed his studio session with his own mentor, Dr. Dre, had been so fruitful, he had plenty of tracks to fill two studio releases.

And now 50 Cent has confirmed he will be following suit, and is set to release his own second record of 2009 just months after his Before I Self Destruct offering - which is expected to hit record stores in June (09).

He tells MTV.com, "What they don't know ... the new announcement is that I'm dropping two albums.

"I've had an opportunity to record since I thought I was releasing an album in December."

Before I Self Destruct will come a month after Eminem's Relapse - with the pair's second albums doing the same later in the year (09)

Eminem says he has no regrets for taking pot-shots at a procession of popular culture stars in his new video, "We Made You".

The clip was given its official premiere yesterday and sees the rapper back on familiar territory, as he limbers up for the release of comeback album "Relapse".

Jessica Simpson, Sarah Palin, Kim Karshadian, Amy Winehouse, Blake Fielder-Civil, Lindsay Lohan, John Mayer, Britney Spears, K-Fed and Jessica Alba are amongst those lampooned in the clip.

The rapper has now spoken about the targets in the video, telling MTV: "There's some celebrity bashing in it".

"I wanna say it's not necessarily intentional bashing in it; it's not necessarily taking deliberate shots at people. Yes, it is. What the f*ck am I talking about?"

"We Made You" is due for release on April 7, with "Relapse" scheduled to follow on May 18.

Eminem has been out of the spotlight for a while now, and it has really allowed him to put together some good music and take the industry by storm again. As the full album hasn't been released just yet there is a lot that still has to be revealed, but if the first single is any indication, this could be a very funny album. Dr. Dre is once again the producer for Eminem, and 50 Cent makes an appearance in the video as well. This is the first video that Eminem has put out in like five years, and it is definitely another interesting look into pop culture and some of the celebrities that have been developed in the last few years.

In the We Made You video, nobody is of limits as Eminem makes fun of Jessica Simpson while playing the role of Tony Romo, he also pokes a lot of fun at Kim Kardashian, Ellen Degeneres, Sarah Palin, and works out a skit on a set of Star Trek. He also takes on the persona of Elvis and Bret Michaels at different moments in the song, and there are a lot of times where it's hard to imagine where he came up with the ideas for the video. For those who have liked Eminem's brand of humor for some time now, this is an album that will not disappoint, and it could be a smash success very soon.

Eminem Raps About Palin in 'We Made You' Music

Rapper Eminem’s latest music video has audiences of all ages watching.

In the video for his single "We Made You" the rapper pokes fun at a plethora of celebrities. While actors impersonate several young celebrities, including Kevin Federline, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson and Amy Winehouse, it is the faux Sarah Palin who’s getting the most attention.

Also causing jaws to drop are the lyrics about Palin. Eminem, born Marshall Bruce Mathers III, raps about sleeping with the Alaska governor. No word on what Palin thinks of her faux musical "cameo."

The "We Made You" video premiered on MTV Tuesday morning. The single will appear on Eminem’s "Relapse" album due out May 19. Just thought we’d let you know in case you care to add him to your playlist.

Eminems We Made You takes aim At celebs

Where do we start? Slim Shady promised he was up to his old tricks in the video for "We Made You," his first solo clip since 2005 and the official opening shot from his forthcoming album, Relapse, due May 19.

And man, does he spray some serious lead. The video, which debuted exclusively on MTV's "AMTV" on Tuesday morning (April 7), was directed by Joseph Kahn (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Britney Spears), and it is merciless in its lampooning of celebrity culture.

Right off the bat, you have Em seated on a throne, who's wearing a long blond wig and a cowboy hat (he's Bret Michaels, in case you couldn't tell), asking for the chorus, which is then crooned by a voluptuous Jessica Simpson-like dancer in tight denim shorts and a ruffled red top. Moments later, as if there was any doubt before, Em comes out in a Dallas Cowboys uniform, looking like Tony Romo and doing a nasty dance behind the faux Jessica.

All the while, in a kind of rogues gallery green room, Em does his best preening Michaels, dangling a rose with a backstage pass on it in front of a line of rock star wannabes that includes impersonators of Sarah Palin, Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan and a dentally challenged Amy Winehouse.

Like so many of Em's previous singles — "My Name Is," "Without Me," "The Real Slim Shady" and "Just Lose It" — the comical clip takes aim at some of our most famous (or is it infamous?) celebrities with the help of the MC's legendarily nimble, witty wordplay.

"There's some celebrity bashing in it," Em warned in a clip from the video set obtained by MTV News. "I wanna say it's not necessarily intentional bashing in it; it's not necessarily taking deliberate shots at people. ... Yes, it is. What the f--- am I talking about?"

Standing on a set that resembles "Guitar Hero," he finally gets to spitting, tossing out the verbal volley: "Back by popular demand/ Now pop a little Zantac/ Or antacid if you can/ You're ready to tackle any task that is at hand/ How does it feel? Is it fantastic, is it grand?"

Soon enough, Dr. Dre appears as the captain of the Starship Enterprise (which looks way more, ahem, streamlined, shall we say). Then Eminem shows up as a rock star going out to dinner with a way bootylicious Kim Kardashian, whose assets threaten to blow him out of the chair.

We also see him as a truck driver who has picked up Lindsay and Sam, who are all over each other in his cab. Eminem 2.0 says he's not trying to offend lesbians as he begs, "Lindsay, please come back to seein' men/ Samantha's a 2; you're practically a 10." And for no reason we can discern, when he touches Sam, he shakes his hand as if getting burned and turns into a Transformer with a Mohawk, breasts and a coffee cup.

The multiple disses in the video seem to be inspired by the track's sing-songy chorus: "When you walked through the door, it was clear to me/ You're the one they adore, who they came to see/ You're a rock star, everybody wants you."

Before the video's premiere, Eminem said that he was using the song as a kind of Jedi mind trick. "Hot chicks who don't want me, I'm telling them they do," he explained. "It's kind of like a reverse-psychology thing, and I'm gonna see if the record comes out and it works."

Who else is a target in this video? Let's see, there's Eminem as Spock, giving the Vulcan neck pinch to Uhura; paying a visit to Ellen DeGeneres' show; pretending to be Kevin Federline as a slim Britney dances nearby; showing off his buff physique as he poses shirtless with an ax in the office of a pouty Palin, who is, of course, wearing a very low-cut bustier to show off her ample experience in office. He also plays John Mayer in a straw porkpie hat, crooning to Jennifer Aniston.

Finally, a master of the build-up, Eminem gets to the video scene that set tongues wagging recently, when a still image from the shoot at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas drew some comparisons to the movie "Rain Man." Em, dressed in a gray suit similar to the one worn by Dustin Hoffman's savant character in the movie, is led through a casino by Dre, wearing a similar suit (à la Tom Cruise), and they sit down at a blackjack table with 50 Cent.

When he's done counting cards and making it rain, farting in bed dressed as Michaels snuggling with Palin, playing Elvis, getting punched out by Jessica Alba, making out with Winehouse while dressed as Blake Civil-Fielder, engaging Ronson in a Vulcan sword fight and feeding Kardashian into a "Fargo"-like wood chipper that spits out cash, Em does a little dance to take us out. Another Eminem classic.

The song was reportedly produced by Dre, and though Fif makes a brief cameo in the video at the Vegas card table, he's not on the track. Eminem has said he is planning a follow-up LP to Relapse later this year.
